Ralph Smart (aka Ralph Okrafo Smart) is a life coach and an online influencer based in Los Angeles, California. Smart calls himself a psychologist and runs a popular YouTube channel with nearly two million subscribers. Smart has written and talked about a wide range of topics, including mental and physical health, spiritual growth, motivation, productivity, personal relationships, and positivity.

Early Life & Education

Ralph Smart was born on 3 March 1986 in London, United Kingdom. His parents had migrated from Sierra Leone, West Africa, and had settled in London. He has said in videos that his upbringing was quite religious, and that religious practice was important to his parents.

At 10, Smart went back to Sierra Leone and lived there for a year. He has often said in videos and also in his books that living in Sierra Leone travelling and living abroad in general completely changed his perspective on life and spirituality. Through extensive travel, visits to numerous places and masters, and a continued self-study, Smart taught himself astrology, yoga, physical and mental wellbeing, nutrition, and what he has called ‘healing sexuality’.

Smart has a Combined Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Criminology from the University of Westminster, UK.

Smart had been severely ill and hospitalised for nearly a month in his mid-twenties. Smart is vegan, and a fervent advocate of a clean, cruelty-free lifestyle.

Career

In August 2011, Smart released his first book, Tryathon: The Love of A Galaxy, a science fiction based in 2049 AD London. The book was based on a hypothetical scenario where nano-technology and digital means would be used for warfare and taking control of foreign entities. Smart’s first book was not a commercial success, but it nonetheless gave him some level of exposure, and confidence for himself that he could write and finish a book.

On 2 November 2013, he released his second book Feel Alive, a non-fiction self-help-styled book. In the book, Smart mostly draws upon his own experiences of struggles and spiritual growth and talks about how human beings have infinite, untapped potential within themselves, and how that can be discovered and awakened within. As of May 2022, the book has received more than a thousand, mostly positive, reviews on Amazon.

In his YouTube videos, he raises similar issues of spirituality, personal development, and meaningful relationships, and advocates the idea that human beings are divine beings and that we should live our lives to the fullest.

Social Media presence

On social media platforms, Ralph Smart has branded himself as an author, speaker and life coach. He has also written for several spiritual magazines and channels. In his videos, Smart uses a keen sense of humour and attempts to make people feel alive and remind them of their spiritual selves.

Smart often says that it is through his videos and writing that he teaches others how to be happy in a world that is complex and chaotic. Smart also provides one-on-one counselling that people can book for improving their spiritual and personal growth and an elevated sense of self-worth. In 2022, a one hour face-to-face session with Smart would cost 770 Pound Sterling (equivalent to 942 USD).

In 2021, Smart was criticised by a group of Reddit users for playing down the risks of COVID-19 in his videos. His YouTube channel Infinite Waters (Diving Deep) has nearly two million subscribers and he has altogether created more than 3000 videos.

Personal life

While Smart talks a lot about love and relationship issues in his YouTube videos, he has stayed silent about his own relationship. In an online chat forum, a few users claimed that he had had a year-long relationship in the past and that he had experienced heartbreak, but he himself has not revealed anything about his former girlfriend or wife.

Relationship with Teal Swan

Smart and new-age spiritualist Teal Swan have appeared together on several YouTube videos. Together they have discussed a wide range of issues, including spirituality, relationships, and life’s purpose. In a YouTube video released in 2016, for instance, Smart and Teal Swan discuss why staying motivated and fixed on one’s goal is important. In the video, Smart says that he and Teal had similar types of audiences and that his followers thought that Teal was perfect.

In response, Swan replies that she had come across people that hated her more than loved her, and that despite all the hate, she was focused on creating purity. Swan also says that doing things that one enjoys most in the present is essential for happiness and growth. Swan also cited the example of Martin Luther King Jr. and argued that it was that purity of focus that had helped him achieve what he had achieved. Swan also says that if one loses track, one should find it again, and there is a danger of losing one’s purpose when the amount of hate was huge.
